Letter of Intent

Director of Admissions,

This portfolio has been created to allow you to more deeply assess my qualifications for admission to your law school.

I will be graduating from The College of New Jersey in December, 2008 with a B.A. in Business Administration of Finance.  Upon graduation I will be attending a law school where I will be specializing on Securities Law.  Until the time comes when I will be attending law school full time, I will be gaining valuable work experience at law firm which I have interned at for over a year.

It is my belief that a person's ability to practice law can't be contained in a single document.  To excel in the law profession, one must display dedication, experience, intelligence, and passion in their pursuit of professional excellence.  Upon review of this portfolio, you will see that I hold all of these virtues in high regard.

Thank you for your time and consideration.  I am excited at the possibility of attending your prestigious law school and I look forward to hearing an acceptance response from your department.

Work Experience

From August, 2008 until the present time, I have been employed at Szaferman Lakind Blumstein & Blader, PC.  At this prestigious law firm in the Princeton, NJ area, my official position title is "Legal Intern for the Personal Injury Department".  My duties as a Intern include, but are not limited to:
  • Performing medical record, discovery, and legal research;
  • Drafting a broad range of legal documents and correspondence for attorney review;
  • Maintaining open lines of communication between attorneys, insurance adjusters, and clients;
  • Managing and organizing case files for prompt retrieval of documents;

Although my employment is primarily focused on the Personal Injury department, I have done work in different litigation areas.  Working in areas such as real estate, workers' compensation, environmental, asbestos, and business litigation has given me a broad range of legal knowledge.  The experience I have gained at Szaferman Lakind will be valuable to me as I progress through your law school.

Working at Szaferman Lakind has also enabled me to build a fairly large network of contacts in the legal community.  I have had the honor of attending social events and presentations where I met high profile attorneys and judges.  These contacts are valuable to me and will help me in my quest to become a successful attorney.

If you would like additional information about my employment at Szaferman Lakind, please view my Curriculum Vitae.

Activities

Throughout my undergraduate career at The College of New Jersey, I have been involved in a variety of activities and programs.  These include:

Each subject of each of these programs represent an area of study that is of particular interest to me.  My participation in these programs shows my dedication and passion to advancing myself intellectually.

Relevant Coursework

Not only has having hands-on experience in the legal field grown my interest of Securities Law, but I have also taken some classes in college that have added to that interest.
  • Introduction to Business Law
  • International Business Law
  • Portfolio Management and Derivative Securities
  • The Economics of Law
The completion of these courses has given me a solid foundation of business and of law.  This foundation will not only set me apart from other students in law school, it will allow me to advance quicker than most other students with no prior legal knowledge.
